A Forever Home for Jessa

Ten years ago Jessa was no longer needed, his owner was going to euthanize him, a 4th level dressage horse with so much training, skill, and knowledge. That is when Well Trained Horses stepped in and he came to live at the rescue. It has taken a few years, but Jessa has finally found his perfect match!

We could not be happier when a horse is re.homed, it means we have room to rescue another. Even though we will miss seeing Jessa’s face everyday, we all have fond memories of him to hold on to forever.  For me, I will never forget how badly Montana, my newly turned, 6 year old wanted to ride Jessa.  He's so big I thought (a 17.2 hh thoroughbred).  I knew she could do it, her little legs were hardly passed the saddle flaps.  She rode Jessa like a natural, even trotted for the first time with him, and all with the biggest smile I have yet to see across her face.  This is a memory that I will have forever.

The following is Shelia’s description of the first time she met Jessa.
August 20, 2011 my life changed.

“I started volunteering 10 months ago at Icssoma Farms, home of Well
Trained Horses. My very first day, Susan (owner/trainer at Icssoma) asked
me if I wanted a riding lesson later in the day. I remember answering yes,
very nervously, knowing I had never received a riding lesson and had not
ridden a horse in many years. When it came time to get Jessa ready for my
riding lesson, another volunteer brought him to the stable for me to tack
up. I looked at him and thought he was beautiful, striking, and very tall
(I would later find out he was 17.2 hands and was the tallest horse on
property). He had the most gentle look in his eyes, so I knew I was
partnered with the right horse. I have never lost that feeling that he was
my perfect partner, and shortly after taking lessons on him I realized I
was in love and had to call him my own.”

Today I am moving Jessa to a horse boarding facility located closer to my
home. However, I will never forget the love and support I have received
since starting my lessons and volunteering at Icssoma Farm. I have created
lifelong friendships and I now own the ‘horse of my dreams’.”

Our deepest congratulations go out to Shelia and Jessa on finding a forever home together! xo

First Rides and Life Long Memories

We received a wonderful email and some photos a few days ago after Natalie, age 4, had her 3rd mini lesson.

“Dear Joy,
Thank you so much for today's lesson. I am very grateful for you doing such a fantastic job with our daughter! You are a very good, very patient teacher, great with kids. Trust me, as a parent I know that our daughter is not an easy one. :-) Natalie loves our Sundays with you and your family. I am astonished to see how confident she is with horses.
Special thank you goes to Montana!”

Saddle Up!

The smiles on their faces brings joy to the heart and memories last a lifetime.

“I LOVE teaching mini lessons at Icssoma Farms. My daughter Montana, age 6, is the best helper! She is a fantastic “ice breaker” for kids who really want to ride, but are a bit hesitant at first. Montana hops right on the horse and shows them how easy it can be.”
